František Tkadlík - Portrait of Jan Srdínko, study
The Portrait of Jan Srdínko (1816) and the Portrait of Jan Srdínko’s Wife Anna (1817) are of the most representative nature among Tkadlík’s painted portraits. The official character of these works is the result of not only the half-length portrayal of the subjects, but mainly due to the use of a conventional decorative background consisting of a column, a drape, and a view of the landscape beyond the window. Jan Srdínko’s portrait expresses the supremely confident attitude of the portrayed, resulting mainly from the self-confident way he is holding his body.
