Milan Knížák - Demonstration of One
In 1964, the intermedia artist Milan Knížák founded a group Aktuální umění (Contemporary Art) which in 1966 was renamed Aktual. He was a member of the international group of artists referred to as Fluxus; having been invited by them, Knížák spent the time between 1968 and 1970 in the USA. Milan Knížák was a pioneer of action art in Central and Eastern Europe, releasing manifestos, installations, and happenings which made it different from art centres in the United States of America and Western Europe. Emphasis put on the liberation of human thinking and behaviour from the thrall to the mechanism of life controlled by the political power of the communist regime was typical of Knížák’s Aktual.
