A Rock Between Braník and Podolí

In his view from Braník the painter combined his desire to render the natural features of the countryside and a Romantic concept of art: Romanticism brought back the cult of stones, reminders of ancient human history. Although the huge mass of the Braník rock did not fully correspond to reality, it became a beautiful and, simultaneously, a symbolic dominant of the painting, with the panorama of Prague in the background.
