Footbridge in the Woods during a Storm

August Bedřich Piepenhagen

August Bedřich Piepenhagen - Footbridge in the Woods during a Storm
In his Romantic, for the most part small compositions Piepenhagen expressed his flight into dreams and nature with a subtle palette. Although he painted his landscapes in the studio, his sole inspiration, at least according to his daughter Charlotte, tafts of moss which he grew on the windowsills of his farm at Jenerálka, Adalbert Stifter in a 1859 letter praised their "rich natural colours" and a strange charm of "moonlight studies veiled in night fogs".
