Woman Selling Fish

As an artist, Gabriel Metsu matured in Leiden, and after he moved to Amsterdam, he became a sought-after painter of genre scenes from burgher milieus. The Fishmonger (Woman Selling Fish) represents an everyday situation - a young girl is buying fish. The scene takes place outside a fisherman´s shanty and the calm atmosphere is only disturbed by the ill-boding dark sky in the background.
