Jacob van Ruisdael - Path between Trees
The renowned Amsterdam landscape painter Jacob van Ruisdael followed the Haarlem school, yet later arrived at his own, more dramatic style. In our painting, the artist developed his favourite theme of ancient oaks. In the semidarkness of the trees, we can hardly make out two small figures. The presence of man is negligible, the natural element is predominant.
