Vojtěch Bartoněk - Study for the painting From the Streets of Prague (Dustmen)
Beginning in the late 1880s, scenes of contemporary life were favourite topics of the emerging generation of painters and Vojtěch Bartoněk was a prominent representative of this genre alongside Luděk Marold. In his study for the painting From the Streets of Prague (Dustmen), the painter portrayed the inhabitants of a house in Prague waiting for the dustcart arrival. In the final canvas, the painter further elaborated two lingering city dandies, just sketched in the study, who give an anecdotic impression of the entire scene. Bartoněk displayed the canvas at the 1887 exhibition of the Fine Arts Union in Rudolfinum in Prague where it was sold and presently is in a private collection.
