Souvenirs of Roscoff (Still-Life with Fish)

Jaroslav Čermák

Jaroslav Čermák - Souvenirs of Roscoff (Still-Life with Fish)
In 1873 at Roscoff in Brittany Čermák painted one of his rare large still-lifes, which he called Souvenirs of Roscoff, a composition with sea fauna he had caught himself. The painting confirms Čermák's refined painting and his feeling for the direct grasping and depicting of reality. All he needed to express, characterize and differentiate the shape of fish and fowl, the surface scales and soft feathers, were colours.
