Miloš Jiránek

Miloš Jiránek - Balcony
Miloš Jiránek is from a strong generation of artists that emerged on the domestic scene during the 1890s. From 1894 to 1899, he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and simultaneously art history at the Faculty of Arts. As a member of the Mánes Association of Fine Artists, he co-organised significant exhibitions of European art in Prague and edited the association’s magazine Volné směry (Free Directions) which abounded with his art reviews. The flat in Lumbe Villa above Jelení příkop (Deer Ditch) near Prague Castle provided inspiration for many canvases by this painter. The painting Balcony depicts Jiránek’s wife Antonín seated in the interior in the company of a family visit.
