A Track at Cernay-la-Ville

Viktor Barvitius

Viktor Barvitius - A Track at Cernay-la-Ville
Once arrived in Paris, Barvitius trained for a short while with Thomas Couture - however, he soon left him and joined his friend Soběslav Hippolyt Pinkas at Cernay-la-Ville. In the beautiful country not far from Paris he painted several landscapes, among them this view of a country track. Painted in thick earthly pastose colours the picture confirms Barvitius’s rapid maturing, the result of his contacts with the Barbizon painters.
