Illustrative Teaching (Child with Toys and Little Dog)

Bartoněk’s canvases featuring children playing in the interior as well as in the city’s secluded places form a separate part of his oeuvre. Most of them have disappeared and remain only as historical reproductions in the periodicals Světozor and Zlatá Praha. The artist was inspired by his two daughters, Marie and Eliška, whom he portrayed in several paintings; the four-year-old Marie modelled for the Illustrative Teaching along with her pet in the role of a pupil.
