Navrátil sought the motifs for his genres in the streets, in society, in the theatre, and he showed anonymous Prague inhabitants at work, play or rest, often with some exaggeration and a touch of humour. Návrátil realistically recorded brief moments with light sketchy brushwork, his chief interest were colours dissolving light in line with luminism.
