Sunset (Côte de la Gale)

The motif of an evening landscape, which fascinated Chittussi in the early eighties, recurs fairly often in his work. Sunsets over villages, woods, ponds and marshes attracted painters above all because of their colours and the opportunity of painting in a more spontaneous way. This dramatic sunset above a rippling water surface, with red reflexes on the lower margins of the clouds, with a broad range of yellow and grey-violet hues, is particularly beautiful.
