Mountainous Country With a Tree and Hermits

The landscapes Procházka painted before 1800 are full of dramatic Baroque concepts, with sharp contrasts of colours and light. Best known yet not most typical is this Mountainous country with a tree and hermits. This for Procházka unusually large picture is painted with thin colours - the scene, composed as a stage set, has all the signs of a heroic Baroque landscape. The staffage, dispersed into several groups, is not connected with some specific action and the whole painting has no Baroque content.
