Accident on the Building Site

Karel Myslbek

Karel Myslbek - Accident on the Building Site
Karel Myslbek won his position in the art scene prior to the First World War despite a disagreement of his father, the outstanding sculptor Josef Václav Myslbek. Karel’s art production was always out of the main and fashionable streams of his time although he was familiar with them and sometimes let them inspire him. The choice of his topics was also rather specific, strongly influenced by social issues of his time. Karel Myslbek produced large formats whose composition he managed with great bravura. Thematically, certain analogies may be found between his painting Accident at the Building Site and the earlier work of Jakub Schikaneder Murder in the House. Myslbek’s career was terminated prematurely because of his tragic death in 1915.
