Portrait of an 80-Year-Old Woman

Jan Anthonisz van Ravesteyn

Jan Anthonisz van Ravesteyn - Portrait of an 80-Year-Old Woman
Ravesteyn was a popular portraitist of the burghers in Delft and The Hague. The portrait of an unidentified eighty-year-old lady is painted with confident portrait faithfulness and impresses in its restrained Protestant character. The dignity of the model is even enhanced by the conservative black attire and the Bible. Portrait of a Botanist by the same painter, now also in the National Gallery in Prague, most probably belonged to the same family gallery.
