St Anne with the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus

Master of the Týnice Annunciation

Master of the Týnice Annunciation - St Anne with the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus
The cycle of woodcarvings by the Master of the Týnice Annunciation dates from the early period of his activity (around 1510 - 1515) and involves also works of the workshop assistants. The workshop founded in that period was inspired by the examples of the wood-carved pieces from Franconia and Saxony; St Anna is made in the style closest to that of the leading master who was named after the group of the Annunciation from a place of pilgrimage the Church in Mariánská Týnice at Kralovice. The Master of the Týnice Annunciation created a number of works such as different altarpieces decorated with woodcarving and painting scattered all over the Plzeň region. The affluence of the commissions coming above all from the burghers brought about the unstable standards of work and the uniformity in the workshop compositions.
