Hana Wichterlová - Composition
This major work done by Hana Wichterlová in her Paris period (1926-1930) represents an abstract, dematerialized interpretation of a figural theme. The simple kinematic motif of the act of slicing an orange in two inspired her Composition. The arms are stylized into cubistically conceived shoulders holding a ball-shaped fetus in the composition’s centre, which is intersected by a vertical longitudinal surface. A specific story was transformed into a complex set of organic and geometric forms open to space in this sculpture designed as a fountain.
