Torso with a Vase

Hana Wichterlová - Torso with a Vase
Hana Wichterlová lived in Paris in 1926-1930 and came in contact with Brancusi’s radical simplification of the sculptural form and emphasis on its hidden inner basis. This influenced the Czech sculptor’s work. In this small sketch cast in bronze, the organic form of a torso is vaguely reminiscent of a woman’s figure bending under the weight of an ovoid burden she carries.
