Model of the Aviators Monument

Zdeněk Pešánek developed the idea for monument glorifying the daring deeds of aviation pioneers who died tragic deaths in many models and sketches between 1925 and the late 1930s. One of his first versions placed the heavily abstracted principal motifs - the ringed Saturn and fragments of an airplane - on a tall stand. In later models, Pešánek preferred a horizontal composition with elaborate light scenography.
