Coarseness, non-aesthetic materials, and provocative non-conventional elements stimulating spectators’ perceptions and thinking are typical of the oeuvre of Joseph Beuys. His work reveals recurring encrypted mythological, national, and biographic topics as well as open space for spectators between the clear material essence of an object and its symbolic use. It is neither a mere visual impression, nor an intellectual understanding, but rather encouragement of the creative energy in man.
