Richard Houston - engraver, Catherine Read - inventor - Miss Harriett Powell
Donated by Vojtěch Lanna in 1885. Especially popular on the British Isles and perfected by English graphic artists in the 18th century, the mezzotint technique was employed particularly in portrait graphic art and reproduction of the paintings owing to its „painterly qualities“. Richard Houston, an Irish graphic artist working in London, did the impressive Portrait of Miss Powell after a model by Scottish painter Catherine Read, who was among the most sought-after portraitist working in pastel.
