Michelangelo’s Madonna and Child flanked by SS. Cosmas and Damian in the Medici Chapel in the Basilica of San Lorenzo, Florence

The sculpture of the Madonna and Child (also known as the Medici Madonna) was placed on the wall between the two tombs in the funeral chapel of the Medicis in the Basilica of San Lorenzo, flanked by the Medici patron saints Cosmas and Damian. (The Italian word Medici stands for „physicians“, the saints are also the patron saints of Medicine and Pharmacy.)
