Maria Ellenrieder - engraver - Portrait of Nicolas Poussin
Dozens of graphic portraits of Nicolas Poussin were done between the 17th and 19th centuries. This portrait of the artist in profile is a copy of a mid-17th-century etching by French engraver Louis Elle, the son of Poussin’s teacher Ferdinand Elle. This well-executed etching is by German painter Marie Ellenrieder, the first woman allowed to study at the Academy of Painting in Munich, Germany.
