Pierre-Auguste Renoir - Venus
At the end of the eighties S. Mallarmé prepared an edition of his essays on literature and the theatre, which were to be illustrated by his important contemporaries (E. Degas, B. Morisot, E. Manet, O. Redon and M. Cassatt). The bibliophile edition of Mallarmé’s anthology Pages was finally published with only one art accompaniment - the etching entitled Venus by A. Renoir. J. K. Huysmans commented on the typical buxom Renoir wench as an exciting beginning to a book by the „King of Poets“.
