The Grand Canal with the Church of S. Simeon

Giovanni Battista Brustolon was born in 1712 in Venice. The scarse information on this artist has been preserved thanks to Moschini. Brustolon took up graphic art before 1739, when he entered the workshop of Giusepe Wagner. Although a number of attempts at painting are known, the core of his artistic pursuits lies in graphic art. Although Brustolon did not devote his sole attention to the veduta genre, this number of creations in this art form nevertheless make him one of the foremost representatives of 18th-century Venetian vedutism. He based his engravings repeatedly on models by Canaletto.
