Stefano della Bella - Apennino from the series Pratolino
This print is one of a collection of six etchings featuring various locations in Pratolino – the weekend resort of the Dukes of Tuscany (now called Demidoff). The image depicts one of the villa’s most famous artworks: the statue of Appenninus by Giovanni da Bologna. The collection of etchings ranks with the best−known and most highly valued creations of Stefano della Bella. Particularly esteemed is the artist’s ability to achieve various gradations of shades that endow the etchings with exquisite charm.
