The Garden of Eden

Roelandt Savery

Roelandt Savery - The Garden of Eden
A quiet, harmonious co-existence of all the representatives of the animal realm, even the otherwise wild cats now tame, such was an idea of the Garden of Eden as rendered by Roelant Savery. Despite his situation at the back under the tree of knowledge, Adam´s is a key role in the painting. The forefather of all people is just giving names to all beasts and birds, as according to the Genesis (2, 19), "whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof."
