František Tkadlík - Design for the Honourable Diploma of the Society of Friends of Church Music in Bohemia
The final phase of Tkadlík’s artistic output was affected by physical hardship caused by the advancing tuberculosis. Tkadlík therefore focused more on drawing and prints, which is evidenced, above all, by two excellent pen and ink designs of diplomas. The first one of them was intended for the Society of Friends of Church music in Bohemia (Verein der Kunstfreunde der Kirchenmusik in Bohmen), which represents a cathedral hall with a choir loft, where the patroness of musicians, St. Cecilia, accompanies on organ the singing maidens surrounding her, with the biblical King David playing harp on the side, and with the Fathers of the Church. Hovering above them, are cherubim soaring to the heavens crowned by the Holy Trinity.
