Walter Crane - A Dream (Voyage de Rêve)
Walter Crane achieved fame mostly in the area of illustration and applied arts – he was one of the leading members of the Arts and Crafts movement. Regarding his paintings and drawings, he was a follower of the Pre-Raphaelites; similar to them, he was interested in medieval and classical art as well as numerous literary inspirations. His allegoric oil, watercolour, and gouache scenes are filled with complex symbolism dealing with the motifs of Fate, Love, Life, and Death. The Journey to Eternity pastel which comes from the artist’s latest period drew inspiration from these topics.
