Portrait of the Rittmeister Kautský

František Tkadlík

František Tkadlík - Portrait of the Rittmeister Kautský
In Portraits of Josef Kautský and His Wife there is a certain shift in expressiveness in comparison with Tkadlík’s portraits of Srdínko family. Particularly in the portrait of Mr. Kautský unaffected realism dominates over typicality. Then Mrs. Kautský’s good-natured smile evokes a feeling of the bourgeois Biedermeier - his quietism and his „love for small pleasures“.
