Interior of a Renaissance Church

Bartholomeus van Bassen

Bartholomeus van Bassen - Interior of a Renaissance Church
The work does not represent any particular church interior, which, judging from the decoration and the mass taking place on the left hand side of the painting, seems to be Catholic. Architecture painters who had to be well-versed in the laws of linear perspective were often inspired by the printed materials. One of the often used sources was the book of a Dutch architect Hans de Vries called Perspective is the most famous art (1604).
