Tobias Pock - Fire
These four paintings initially from the collection of Josef Hoser were made at the end of Pock's lifetime, when the painter probably worked only occasionally. One of the painting, Earth was signed and dated (1680); no other work is known of that year. Frequently made in series, these allegories feature putti, who represent the four elements. The tradition was begun in the second half of the 16th century and allegorical paintings of the seasons of the year, of elements, or allegories of the senses were abundantly employed in the arrangements in aristocratic picture galleries
