Flowers in front of a Window

Suzanne Valadon

Suzanne Valadon - Flowers in front of a Window
The painter and graphic artist Suzanne Valadon, mother of the painter Maurice Utrillo, was influenced by the work of the group of artists Les Nabis as well as the symbolic Fauvist and Synthetism artists. She created figural paintings, landscapes, and still lifes with strong spontaneous and precise contours and contrasts of colours. Flowers in front of a Window (1930) shows her masterful command of flexible outlines along with the application of intense colour spaces in the entire composition of the landscape viewed from the window and the fresh colours of the bouquet in the vase.
