Rudolf Jettmar - Fighting with a Monster
Rudolf Jettmar is a lesser-known representative of Central European symbolism. He was one of the founders of the Vienna Secession and contributor to Ver Sacrum magazine. Jettmar was strongly influenced by Max Klinger. He also made several remarkable cycles of prints. The painting Fighting with a Monster is part of the loose cycle ‘Dragons and Monsters’ which comes from the early 20th century. Jettmar shared his inspiration by mythology with other Central European artists, for example Arnold Böcklin. In the Czech lands, Hanuš Schwaiger and Maxmilian Pirner showed similar tendencies as Jettmar.
