Jan Štursa - Sulamit Rahu
The sculpture of a non-idealised female body in a dancing position represents one of the paramount sculptures of Štursa in the dynamic rendering of matter in motion. It deviates from the classical ideal, and the lyrical dreaming of Štursa’s early girls’ nudes is replaced by a vitalistic concept and voluptuous corporeality of a mature female body. A Danish belly dancer, who under her artistic nickname Sulamit Rahu appeared in Lucerna Cabaret in Prague in 1909, modelled for this sensual nude.
