Zdeněk Pešánek - Model of a sculpture for the decoration of the main entrance to the City of Prague Electric Works building
The one-third scale model of a sculpture entered by Zdeněk Pešánek in a 1936 competition to adorn the entrance of a new Electric Utility Company building in Prague-Holešovice combined a transparent fragment of a woman’s body with electro-technical components and a mast outlined by a yellow neon tube. In the 1920s, he worked mostly with constructivist vocabulary, but in the 1930s, his light kinetic project designs combined new technologies and diverse materials with organic forms and imaginative themes. The human body in the form of a lighted torso reminiscent of the motifs of Josef Šíma’s paintings also found their way back into Pešánek’s work.
