Thomas Cook - engraver, William Hogarth - inventor - A Rake’s Progress VI
Down on his knees, Tom rails against the heavens in a scene set in a gambling hall, where he has squandered his inheritance. Flames break into the room simultaneously with the presence of a warden, who remains unnoticed by all but the croupier and a single gambler. The others are completely engrossed in the game, blinded by varying degrees of the gambler’s fever.
