Ill-matched Couple (Old Fool)

The composition of the painting is based on a depiction of the same theme, very popular in the work of Cranach and his circle. We find the gesture of the old man, embracing and kissing the woman, for instance in a work, which appeared on the art market and in the collection Cambo in Barcelona). The face of the woman, her hat, clothes and jewellery, in a somewhat coarse position, imitates a type, which we meet with frequently in the work of Cranach and his circle.
