Girl with Turkey Hens

Quido Mánes

Quido Mánes - Girl with Turkey Hens
In his pictures, on the border-line between genres and portraits, Quido often situated his models into a specific environment. In an early picture called Going for a drive he showed baron Veith's children outside their Liběchov manor. Tradition has it that in this picture he portrayed countess Sylva-Taroucco feeding a flock of turkey-hens in a park, possibly at their manor Čechy pod Kosířem. The corner of the garden gave Mánes the possibility of rendering the background in darker tones and thus emphasize the contrast between the girl and the flock of white turkey-hen.
