Portrait of a Lady with a Fan

This striking portrait of an elegant Parisian woman, painted in sophisticated colours, is all grey and black hues with red accents. With this portrait Hynais ended his career of a Parisian portraitist before leaving for the Prague Academy. He was appointed professor of the Academy in 1893. The picture confirms the painter's ability to express the likeness and charm of the portrayed lady and his feeling for combining a portrait and a landscape, rendered in plein-air Luminism.
