In the Park

The painting was probably produced after Robert´s return from Italy in the early 1780s, along with several other views of the park and that of the famous ruins in Nîmes. For Robert des Ruines, as the painter was nicknamed, the ruins had remained a sought-after subject even in France, and their representations even won him recognition from Denis Diderot.
