Jan I. Brueghel, Hendrick de Clerck I. - The Landscape with Diana and Actaeon
The story told by Ovid in his Metamorphoses tells about the cruel destiny of Actaeon: a young man has lost his way in the forest while hunting and found himself in front of Diana’s cave. The goddess was just about to have a bath. Having seen her naked, Diana made Actaeon into a stag, whom her own dogs immediately tore apart.
