The Mocking of Christ

Hans Hoffmann

Hans Hoffmann - The Mocking of Christ
An impressive reminiscence of Dürer´s style can be seen in the panel The Mocking of Christ. With all probability, this is a work of the Nuremberg painter Hans Hoffmann, who ranked among the foremost representatives of the "Dürer renaissance" in the second half of the 16th century. The artist of the Prague panel loosely paraphrased the work of the Nuremberg master. The impression of authenticity was to be enhanced by the fake "AD" monogram with the date 1520, at the top right.
