Hermit

The signed picture portrays a hermit in front of a cross. Evidently executed in the style of Rembrandt van Rijn, the painting suggests the artist’s early production from the 1730s. It is related to the phenomenon of the reception of Rembradt’s art and the output of the circle of his students that saw a new flourishing in the course of the 18th century.
