Infant Jesus the Triumphant

Ignaz Franz Platzer

Ignaz Franz Platzer - Infant Jesus the Triumphant
Although of rather small dimensions, the two drawings displaying distinctive morphology rank among the most frequently exhibited and published Platzer’s works on paper. Especially the sketch of the Virgin has been acknowledged as an example of the “rapture between two principles” - Classicism and Rococo - within Platzer’s oeuvre. The figure of Immaculata is enclosed and firm along the lines of Classicism, while the drapery “moves on its own surf of the flickering tips”.
