The Assumption

Platzer executed many commissions for the Strahov Premonstratensians, one of them being the highly praised, albeit today lost sculpture of St Norbert for Charles Bridge. The drawing on display is a design for the group sculpture of The Assumption, created by Platzer for the main altarpiece of the Strahov basilica. Both the drawing and the sculptural composition - while the latter was subsequently realized in an altered form - represent fascinating examples of Platzer’s late Classicism.
