Cenotaph of St John Nepomucene

Ignaz Franz Platzer

Ignaz Franz Platzer - Cenotaph of St John Nepomucene
The drawing inheritance of Platzer’s workshop does not only include sketches but also more elaborated drawings intended for commissioners. The latter can be exemplified by the displayed design of the St Nepomucene cenotaph, situated outside St Vitus’ Cathedral, which ranks among Platzer’s most well-known achievements. From the 1740s, Platzer pursued the subject of the given saint repeatedly and even succeeded in selling a small wood-carving of Nepomucene to the imperial family.
