Praying Virgin Mary

Anton Kern

Anton Kern - Praying Virgin Mary
In 1723 Kern travelled to Venice to study there. He worked as an important member of the renowned studio led by Giovanni Battista Pittoni. This studio produced, among other things, diminished replicas of Pittoni’s compositions, which were in great demand. In this case, Kern also faithfully copied his master’s painting of the same subject (Berlin, Staatliche Museen - Preußischer Kulturbesitz), to learn his style and technique.
