Portrait of a Young Sculptor

Jean-Baptiste Santerre

Jean-Baptiste Santerre - Portrait of a Young Sculptor
The painter specialized mainly in female figure paintings and nudes. Their refined delicacy is a forerunner of works by Boucher and Fragonard the great personalities of the French Rococo style. The identity of the young artist with a beret on his head has not yet been determined. The second variation of the Prague portrait is in a Chicago collection where it has, for a long time, been thought to be a work of Antoine Watteau and later of Antoine Pesne.
